The WONDER
The WONDER is a strange phenomenon that seems to occur only at a specific time of the year, usually around the first day of a year's second quarter. It has proven to be impossible to predict exactly which years the WONDER will make an appearance, and even when its presence does manifest, it usually lasts no longer than one or perhaps two days at most. This makes it one of the rarest occurrences within Cubic Worlds.
Wherever the WONDER is involved you're very likely to also encounter bright rainbow colours, fantastical absurdity, and well-meaning japes - though some amount of mild annoyance isn't unheard of either. Distorted or recoloured images and screenshots are the WONDER's preferred way of announcing its imminent arrival, and its only apparent motivation is to turn our otherwise dreary world into a more interesting and amusing place.
One of the earliest incidents created by the WONDER was its "Takeover" of the server in 2012, though there have been other cases that are not so well documented. These include:
- Influencing Zolyx in 2015 to announce uncharacteristically sweeping (and highly unpopular) server changes
- A second Takeover event in 2016 expanded with content from the Pokemon universe
- Activation of "Posh Mode" in 2019
The WONDER is best described as a trickster spirit. While the full extent of its power remains a mystery, it has previously shown itself capable of changing player names and ranks as well as automatically substituting certain words or phrases within Minecraft chat (appropriate to a whatever theme the WONDER is following for a given year).
Strangely, server staff are frequently unable or unwilling to acknowledge any ongoing wondrous effects until after things have returned to normal, so you should be wary of completely trust their behaviour at any time the WONDER is upon you, because ultimately, everything is fine.
