Hosting

Throughout it's existence, Cubic Worlds has been hosted by numerous people and companies. This page serves to document them all, and provide insight into what they were like, for newer members.

Multiplay (May 7th 2011-September 27th 2011)

The first host, and probably the most despised. Multiplay are the largest server host across all PC games in Europe, and therefore, probably weren't the best choice for a small server like Cubic Worlds. The period of Multiplay was one of lag, glitches, and general stress. Despite being based in the UK, The connection was sporadic for even players residing in the UK such as Zolyx, Flappyflap, and Mechajin, had terrible lag issues. Also, during the Multiplay period, the amount of slots on the server was pitifully small, at 16. Meaning that at peak times, people were often locked out of the server. Also, crashes were frequent, probably caused by all the connecting/reconnecting people tried to do to get on. Due to a plugin crash caused by Multiplay on September 27th, the server moves to Monkz's hosting the day after.

Monkz (September 28th 2011-March 15th 2012)

The second host, and probably the most loved. Monkz was an independent host, who agreed to host us following our troubles with Multiplay, He worked closely with Zolyx to fix any issues that popped up. The server had it's slots increased from 16 to 24, and the struggles for a place ceased. Despite repeated Memory issues, there was little lag, and the people were happy. After disappearing from Multiplay's listings, griefers became less frequent. Eventually however, Monkz had to stop his hosting services, due to real-life commitments. the server then moved to Self Hosting during the interim.

Self-Hosting (March 16th 2011-March 25 2012)

The shortest period of hosting. During the search for a more permanent host, Zolyx decided to run Cubic Worlds using his own Laptop. Despite this, there wasn't much lag. but chunk errors abounded. Despite a poll showing that most people would be happy continuing with self-host for the foreseeable future, it was dropped due to impracticality, and the discovery of CreeperHost.

CreeperHost (March 26th 2012-July 9th 2012)

CreeperHost was selected out of a group of potential new server hosts. At first CreeperHost wasn't at all liked, people even said "worse then Multiplay". After a while though, the most problems disappeared and the life continued back to normal.

Monkz Comeback (July 9th 2012-Present)

On July 8th Monkz contacted Zolyx to see if we were still interested in his server hosting. After everyone voted, the next day(july 9th) it was decided to switch back to Monkz server.
