Location (x=55,z=-745)

The Ville d'Art is a town that is owned by The Staff of Cubic Worlds in New Avalon. It is located in a field directly north from the spawn area, and it will eventually house the Splash Gauntlet.

Current Status

The city structure is complete! A hearty thanks go to all those who donated work and brick/clay to the effort! Now the only remaining task is to fill all the empty plots and mural spaces with artwork! To that end, the price system has changed.

  • Claiming a mural space is now free, but you can still only have up to 4, unless otherwise told.
  • Small plots are also free, but medium and large plots cost 2 and 4 diamonds (or equivalent) respectively.
  • Remember that you may only have up to 3 plots unless otherwise noted, and only 1 of those can be a large space.

Official Rules

  • Do not build ANYTHING without Fubaka's permission! (Violators will be forced to pay double the fee for the plot, or be charged with griefing!)
  • Don't build taller than the plot's height restriction! (Though try to build close to it, if not at it)

(For specific details, consult the layout image below.)

  • Please keep all art PG! (I don't wanna get in trouble)
  • Do not feature cobblestone or dirt on any surface of your art piece! (Those blocks be ugly)

(Exceptions can be made if you can somehow make these blocks look good in an art piece)

  • Try to have a theme flow going with nearby artwork! (Especially if you are doing a mural)
  • Please don't make 2-D pixel art on any of the art plots! That's what the Murals are for!
  • A single player cannot hold more than 3 art spaces (No more than 1 central space), and 4 murals.

(Exceptions can be made for special cases)

  • Don't dig too deeply into the ground, as something special is gonna be built beneath the town, and the entrance to which will be in the Central Art Piece.
  • In terms of art plots, recreations of copyrighted or otherwise outside material pieces are not allowed. Namely, create original art!

(Art pieces inspired by above work is allowed)

Art Guidelines and Suggestions

Players have the option to make their art piece entirely aesthetic in nature, or they could build it with a function. The artwork could serve as a house, a shop, or even a game of some kind! Don't forget that you can utilize mechanisms too, if that will help make your art more arty!

Fubaka will reserve the right to have unsatisfactory structures removed/redone, and the offending materials returned to the player who built it. Players who build something truly impressive, on the other hand, will receive prizes, and will be granted access to special spaces if they so desire. Special plots will be given out early to those who are worthy of them. If you feel worthy, please send a PM to Fubaka on the forums, or post a reply to the thread located here: [1] with a picture of your character standing in front of some other amazing structure you have built at some point.

Trivia

  • The estimated total area of the Ville d'Art is 189 x 189 blocks, including everything up to the outer walkway.
  • It was initially planned to have the Ville situated in a more nearby field, but after test-building a cross-section of the town on his own (first project image), Fubaka decided that he was gonna need more space.
  • The height restrictions for the plots and murals have been increased since the initial layout.
  • There are a total of 93 individual art spaces, and 168 murals in the Ville!
  • A Hall of Wool has been built for the city, for artists to get their hands on whatever wool color they need!
  • Pirates refer to the town as the Ville d'Arrrr't.
  • The Ville is in a formal alliance with the city of Vallhalla, and has a rail station connecting the two towns.
  • Overlooking the Ville on the northwestern side is the Greater Library and its massive sugar-cane field.
  • The Ville's structure was completed on the 30th of March, 2012. That means that it took 115 days for the Ville to go from the bare bones CSP model to structural realization in New Avalon! Who knows how much longer it will take to fill all the plots and murals!
