The Grand Library of House Antaka is a pivotal public facility built by Fubaka and JakTheMad in August of 2016, for the purpose of storing and sharing the server's knowledge.
Many books are kept here, and new submissions are always welcome. For full details on how to use this library, as well as details on the library's catalog, please visit this forum thread: http://forum.cubicworlds.net/index.php?threads/the-grand-library-of-house-antaka.4685/
Reaching the Library
There is currently a granite road that leads to the library from Tesseract City. It can be found just past the Cube Tower, as an off-shoot of the north road. The road itself winds through a forest guarded by wolves and Macpants.
It can also be reached via a portal in the Portal Hall, in Tesseract City.
Building Description
While a bit more modest-looking than the Greater Library of Avalon, the Grand Library is a much more effective houser of knowledge, no longer constrained by the pre-written-book days. It currently consists of a main facility, built in a monastery-like fashion, with a separate Sugar Cane farm, and plans for more facilities. The main building is built primarily with stone brick and wood of oak and dark oak; forming a main tower, with two off-shoot towers. The first off-shoot contains the lobby, as well as the cartography section. The second off-shoot provides enchanting and brewing services. The main tower itself is where all the books are stored, with the newest publications on the main floor, and the rest of the books in the basement levels. The rest is really just decoration.
Reading Rooms
There are currently fourteen active reading rooms, which can all be found in the basement levels of the main facility. They are as follows:
Sub-Level 1
- FICTION: Contains general works of fiction by the players.
- LORE: Contains important tales regarding server events.
- NON-FICTION: Contains guides, histories, and other things that are totally and completely factual.
- GRAND FICTION: Contains more vaunted and artful literature, like poetry and buddy-cop fiction.
- EPICS: Three rooms are devoted to epics, which are stories consisting of at least 5 long volumes.
Sub-Level 2
- FICTION II: Contains more general works of fiction by the players.
- RULEBOOKS & GUIDEBOOKS: Contains instructional books pertaining to events and contests.
- LORE II: Contains more important tales regarding server events.
- NON-FICTION II: Contains documentation of players, structures, cities, and other things.
- RECOVERED JOURNALS: Contains torn journals and diaries that players have left behind for whatever reason. May or may not be factual.
- GRAND FICTION II: Contains even more vaunted and artful literature, like legends and choose-your-own-adventure novels.
- TRIVIA & MISC.: Contains books spattered with random information, calendar dates, and hints.
Utilities
The Library also houses many additional rooms devoted to utility functions. They are as follows:
- Lobby: Here is where the players can hang out, and turn in books for archiving. This is usually the first room visitors see.
- Main Chamber: The central tower of the library is where the newest publications can be found, and also connects to all the other rooms.
- Cartography: This tower is where maps of various sorts are kept. This will likely become more useful after the 1.11 update.
- Enchanting & Brewing: This tower serves as the place where players can enchant and brew potions. Some materials are provided courtesy of the library faculty.
- Anvil Passageway: This small room houses two anvils, and connects the reading rooms to the Sub-Chamber.
- Sub-Chamber: This underground chamber serves as the hub for the Sub-Utility rooms. There is a wall of furnaces on the south side that can be used.
- Beetroot & Melon Farm: This room grows beetroot and Melons. Not very library-like I know.
- Head Librarian's Quarters: This room is where the Head Librarian studies and sleeps.
- Nether Wart Farm: This room grows Nether Wart, and connects to the mine.
- Mine: This extensive mine operates at diamond level, and also houses the Mooshroom Farm.
- Mooshroom Farm: This room spawns Mooshrooms at a tolerable rate.
- Sugar Cane Farm: This farm outside the library grows Sugar Cane, which is used mainly for paper.
- Antaka Prison Ship: This ship - found on the coast just north of the library - houses 10 convict librarians. These guys offer enchanted books of various sorts in return for shiny emeralds.
Trivia
- The library was initially built in Voxellia, near the southern border. It was moved to Tesseract on the day that world opened.
- The mushroom and Nether Wart ceilings on the main library facility are an obscure reference to the mushroom buildings in Morrowind.
- This library has secrets (don't go looking for them).
- Squeedge and Vono once had a fight here, shooting flaming arrows at each-other and nearby mobs. Thankfully they didn't light the library on fire.
- Copious amounts of TNT were used to make the valley around the library look nice.
- The second phase of the library was opened to the public on the 27th of September, 2016, after the library obtained its 100th unique book.
