SamWellMag (formerly known as Fubaka) is an extremely senior user on Cubic Worlds, and was the first to apply for membership. He has served in every level of Stafferdom, and for a time was the Crimson OP. He has been retired four times, and has played on-and-off in bursts of activity and absence. He currently holds the rank of Elder.

History and Projects

Over the years, SamWellMag garnered quite a reputation among the server for his outgoing behavior, public-minded attitude, and general desire to entertain. During his active years, he had interacted with every member who came on regularly, and would often help them with issues, even if they weren't staff issues. People on the server knew him best for his large public projects, and his large-scale events, most notably the Crimson Cup.

SamWellMag's first project on the server occurred during the early days of Pixellia, where he built the Hemidome and the first Jump Gauntlet beneath it. Since then, he has been responsible for a wide variety of projects, most notably the Great Library, the Ville d'Art, the Cube Tower and several major events, including The End Event. During his tenure as a Staffer, he also developed and ran several major games, such as Skyblock Wars, Hot Foot!, and the most infamous, the Crimson Cup. SamWellMag was also responsible for the discovery, and later enshrinement of Cubestone (now an official block called Smooth Stone).

SamWellMag has retired four times, twice from staff and twice from playing. The first time was late in the era of Pixellia, after running the Arachnid Storm event. The second time was in Avalon, where he had lost the desire to play, and wished to only moderate. The third time was after his tenure as Crimson OP, spurred by the loss of SunnySoulSheep and the subsequent falling out with other staffers. After this third time, he went on a two year hiatus before returning to the server. After returning, he built the Grand Library of House Antaka, and then spent a year to built the triple terror that was Galleria, Artreach, and the Elder's Channel. SamWellMag retired again shortly into Arcadia and didn't play much Minecraft at all for four years, only returning in late 2025 with a new username at the transition point from Marmota to Lunaris.

SamWellMag has also changed skins several times, having designed most of them. His current skin is of Kinger from THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS. In the past, he has also resembled a Combine Elite soldier from Half Life 2, Magolor, Octodad, the "red guy" from Don't Hug Me I'm Scared, and President Haltmann, along with some more original skins.

Personality

SamWellMag is best known as a helpful old fool who can talk at great length with other members, and is always willing to run errands for folks when needed. He runs hot and cold with his material possessions, gathering them quickly as necessary to accomplish his projects, but almost as quickly using them up. As such, he is one of the poorest of the senior members, compounded by the many times he's restarted fresh. His playstyle is old-fashioned, preferring to do things the dirty way most of the time, though he will experiment at length with newer materials and sometimes draws plans for buildings as needed. He is naturally curious, but he isn't much of an inventor, and is only passably confident with Redstone wiring. His primary calling is documentation, whether it be on the wiki, or in the server itself in the form of books.

In real life, SamWellMag was diagnosed with high-functioning autism as a child. This combined with his general anxiety and major depressive disorders has made advancing through life difficult, and although through a lot of work he has attained competency in regular conversation, he has great difficulty making real-world friends, especially in these modern isolationist times. His schooling was similarly long and convoluted, going through several difficult patches before emerging as a generally competent student following the COVID-19 pandemic, earning his Bachelor's degree in Atmospheric Science in 2024 with much praise. Despite this, SamWellMag is currently not employed in a career utilizing his degree, and is at present pulling levers for a cannabinoid manufacturing plant out in the desert. SamWellMag's hobbies primarily revolve around creative computer activities, though he also enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and biking. SamWellMag is an avid lover of science and history, and would like to highly recommend the Fall of Civilizations Podcast to anyone who hasn't heard of it yet. Though not a genius by any stretch, SamWellMag has a deep and rich personal philosophy which buoys him from total despair in this age of unbecoming.

Aside from his tenure on Cubic Worlds, SamWellMag has been active in other online communities and projects, though he is now retired from all of them. These projects include the following:

WiKirby

SamWellMag (known as Samwell there) was the first Editor-in-Chief of WiKirby: the independent fan-run wiki for the Kirby franchise. He made over 100,000 edits to the wiki from the span of 2015 to 2024, helping bring the wiki up to date and out of a state of dormancy after the tragic death of its original founder: Axiomist. He was well-regarded by nearly everyone there, and helped train the current generation of staffers, including its current EiC: Gigi. Despite no longer being active on the wiki, SamWellMag still keeps an eye on its activities from time to time.

Nifflas community

The Nifflas community is a group of people who play and make content for the games made by Swedish game designer Nicklas Nygren. Although he made many games, the one that continues to draw the most activity is Knytt Stories, a 2D puzzle-platformer made in 2007. SamWellMag (known as Fubaka there) made many "levels" for the game over the years, with the most appreciated being "Cosmic Meltdown" and "The Column". He also beta-tested and otherwise helped on many other user-made levels. After the release of "Cosmic Meltdown Retold" and the unfinished "magnum opus": "The Search for Silence" in 2025, SamWellMag retired from this community.

Music on Newgrounds

SamWellMag has made hundreds of songs over the years, first as Fubaka and later under the name "The Cupbearer". He released many albums spanning from 2009 to 2025. The most notable include the following:

• Our Legacy (2015): A spacey ambient album using sounds derived from data from various space probes, mainly the Voyager missions.
• Deparct (2015): A minimalist ambient/electronica album made almost entirely using modified vocal recordings and nature sounds. This album is much beloved by the Nifflas community, and can as such be heard in many Knytt Stories levels.
• Music from The Search for Silence series (2021-2023): Three albums which were intended to serve as the soundtrack for the now-canceled project "The Search for Silence". These follow up from the baseline established by Deparct, featuring more advanced synthetic instruments and melodies. Had the project been completed as planned, there would have been at least 5 more albums in this series.
• Alexei and the Stromatolite: Ambiances of Voyage Volume One (2025): An eerie dark ambient album rendered mostly in mono which is meant to accompany the feature-length animated film "Voyage", whenever that gets around to being worked on.

SamWellMag has since withdrawn from Newgrounds, along with both of the aforementioned artist names. He isn't done making music though...

• SamWellMag's favorite video game character, and by extension favorite fictional character, is Kirby. His favorite video game, however, is Diablo II: Lord of Destruction.
  • Despite this, SamWellMag has played a wide variety of games, including Don't Starve, Within a Deep Forest, The Stanley Parable, The Zium Garden, SubTerra, Glover, and even Luanti.
    • SamWellMag has also played a fair share of terrible games, including Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Sonic R, and Doctor Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
• SamWellMag's favorite tool in Minecraft by far is the elytra, followed by the boat.
• SamWellMag's preferred place to build is on an island, though ideally one that isn't too isolated.
• SamWellMag first played Minecraft in 2010, during version Alpha 1.1.2_01. As a result, this is still his favorite legacy version of the game, followed by Beta 1.7.3.
• When he was a staffer, SamWellMag was known to concoct dangerous potions. The most notorious, the Astronautic Potion, often resulted in the untimely demise of its drinker. Rumor has it that he may still be keeping some of these around...
• SamWellMag's favorite film is Blue by Derek Jarman, followed closely by 2001: A Space Odyssey. His favorite comedy is Monty Python's Life of Brian. His favorite "true" indie film is Klay World: Off The Table.
• SamWellMag's favorite historical period is early antiquity, from roughly 700 BCE to 100 BCE. After that, things really go downhill.
• SamWellMag's favorite real-world location is Yellowstone National Park.
