=== Introduction & Rationale ===
[[Category:Cubic Worlds]]{{Rules and Policies}}
Cubic Worlds is advertised and run as a "family-friendly" server with a PG rating. Because it is natural for people to have varying opinions of what this means and different feelings on what they consider is child-safe and what isn't, this page is here to try and describe in detail the standard to which we try ad run the server.

If you feel our guidelines are too prudish and over-strict, please understand that Cubic Worlds - unlike many other less regulated servers - is a place where very young, pre-teen children are welcomed with open arms and encouraged to enjoy the game in a safe, friendly and well-moderated environment. That is one of our "founding principles". Where children are concerned, if there is any doubt about what can be found offensive or not, the most logical course of action is to err on the side of caution - regardless of personal opinion.

=== Inappropriate Language & Topics of Conversation ===
We want to be a place where players of all ages and abilities are given a warm welcome and encouraged to enjoy the game in a safe, moderated environment. Some of those players will be quite young, and where children are concerned, we feel that if there's any doubt about what can be found offensive or not, the best course of action is to err on the side of caution.
* Swearing is not allowed on the server, even if the only people online are people you know in real life who would not have any problem with it. Staff will consider anything defined by the [http://oxforddictionaries.com/ Oxford English dictionary] as "vulgar slang" to be a swearword. We also make use of the site [http://www.noswearing.org NoSwearing.org] when defining swearwords.
* Abbreviations whose commonly accepted definition includes swearwords should be avoided. We may not immediately jump down your throat about it, but you should take some effort to avoid exclamations such as "wtf" - you will be warned about it sooner or later.
* Talking about genitalia, pornography or other sex-related subjects is not allowed. Use of the word "sex" should be limited to the context of gender only.
* Discussing controversial, illegal, or otherwise "grey" topics may be allowed but only within reasonable context, and staff reserve the right to ask participants to change the subject at any time. Such topics can include but are not limited to: Abortion, violence, horror, religious extremism, racism, terrorism, animal cruelty, and hacking.

There are many server-related issues that you are welcome to suggest improvements to, and indeed many decisions shaping the future of the Cubic Worlds have been decided by its Members - hence the "democratic" part of our outlook. What about the "dictatorship" part, you ask?

Ultimately, Cubic Worlds is "owned" and run according to the sole principles of its current Chief of Staff, Zolyx. You may not agree with his choices on what is right and what is wrong, but for this tiny slice of the internet, the subjects of acceptable language and certain other aspects of the server rules are not issues that will ever be open to debate. Regardless of your status as a free player, donor to the Meepling Appeal, or even as a staffer, this policy will be changed only when the server owner sees fit to do so. Repeatedly arguing against that will eventually result in a ban.

* Touchy topics, such as religion, politics, and conspiracy theories, should be avoided. Whatever position you hold, somebody is bound to be offended.
Cubic Worlds chooses not use a chat filtering system. Typically these can be easily bypassed by those who really wish to do so, but this choice also allows us to see and deal with any problems more accurately.
* Jokes and complaints about politicians are OK: "Max Marmot is a terrible person and his hair looks absurd". Jokes about death threats, assassination or harassment are not: "Somebody should do a JFK on Max Marmot".

* Please remember that freedom of speech is not a right to be offensive.

As part of its basic operation, all public chat and private messages are logged by the server into a file. This file is accessible only by the server Operators and its use is restricted to the rare cases where there is no other way to verify a claim of lawbreaking. As defined by the Staff Policy, we do not use this file to spy on private conversations.
If you see anything in chat that you feel goes against these guidelines, please notify staff directly through our Discord. We'll investigate your report as soon as we can.

Cubic Worlds is a family-friendly server with a PG rating. Because people may have differing opinions of what this means and what they consider child-safe, this page goes into more detail about what language is considered okay to use within our community.

To that end, the main points of our language policy are:

  • Swearing isn't allowed, even if you're talking to people you know in real life who wouldn't have any problem with it.
    • We define swear words as anything considered "vulgar slang" by the Oxford English dictionary. We also make use of the site NoSwearing.com.
    • Avoid using any abbreviation or internet slang whose commonly accepted definition includes swearwords, e.g. "wtf". We may not immediately jump down your throat about it but you're likely to be warned about it sooner or later.
  • Talking about sex-related subjects is not allowed.
  • Discussing controversial, illegal, or otherwise "grey" topics may be allowed but only within reasonable context. Staff reserve the right to ask you to change the subject at any time, or continue your conversation privately. Such topics can include (but are not limited to) abortion, violence, horror, religious extremism, racism, terrorism, animal cruelty, or hacking.

We do our utmost to make Cubic Worlds a friendly and open-minded community for mature players as well as younger folk. While you're adventuring with us, sometimes you might want to discuss real-world concerns and problems in chat, and that's okay! There are certainly plenty of troubles around these days. Censorship definitely isn't something we're aiming for, but we do ask that you be respectful and bear the following points in mind:

  • Touchy topics, such as religion, politics, and conspiracy theories, should be avoided. Whatever position you hold, somebody is bound to be offended.
  • Jokes and complaints about politicians are OK: "Max Marmot is a terrible person and his hair looks absurd". Jokes about death threats, assassination or harassment are not: "Somebody should do a JFK on Max Marmot".
  • Deliberately hostile racial, cultural or ethnic typecasting will not be tolerated.
  • Please remember that freedom of speech is not a right to be offensive.

If you see anything in chat that you feel goes against these guidelines, please notify staff directly through our Discord. We'll investigate your report as soon as we can.
